Makin' a Break For It

Have you ever noticed that every once in a while the yarn makes a run for it? This happens a lot apparently. My friend Annie had a skein jump out of her bag on the way from a friend’s house to the car. She noticed a tugging on it about two blocks later only to realize she had been trailing yarn through the streets of Somerville. I’ve had any number of times when I’ve come out in the morning to find yarn that has flung itself off the shelves. I’ve always thought the shop had elves though wouldn’t you think they’d tidy up?
Just last week, I got a panicked call from Laura claiming she’d accidentally shoplifted some Noro from me. She had been sitting very near the Noro shelf during knitting group when a skein leapt off the shelf into her bag. She was quite horrified! And this week, poor Miren came in to tell us that three skeins of yarn had fled from her bag somewhere on a bus, never to be seen again. It wasn’t the cheap stuff either but nice yarn she’d bought to make Christmas presents. So be careful everyone. There are skeins of yarn out there just waiting for their chance. Don’t let them get away!

Not to question your veracity but this is exactly "why not have a blog about it"

Dean, not to be rude, but I've tried and I've tried and I can't figure out what you're trying to say in your comment. Are there some words missing, perhaps?

I think he's talking about the line under the title of my blog and all the silly stuff that happens around here.

Ah, right. So now that the yarn knows that we KNOW, it can plan and strategize that much better. Thus, it might have been wiser not to blog that we have noticed its activity. ;)

The worst yarn flight ever: the big ball of of 3-ply handspun merino and beginnings of a watch cap for D that disappeared out of my bag one day. In the end, I knit the cap for D out of cashmere, but losing handspun still hurts quite a lot.

I know I shouldn't laugh because it is serious but.... My worst yarn break story?

I went to a local children's theater group. At what turned out to be no more than 2 minutes before intermission, Chiquita announced she had to find a bathroom *right then*. So I stuffed my sock in my purse that I had been knitting (stockinette in the dark), found the most laborious route to the exit, as the space wasn't really designed for theater, and took her out. About 6" from the exit I realized that I was stuck, and looking back I could see I had trailed yarn all the way back to where I started. So not only did I get to go untangle my trailing yarn, but I also go to hunt down the wayward ball in the dark until the lights turned on. (Yes we got her to the bathroom first.)

So then he's being rude. Got it.
