Wind, wind, wind

It's that time of year again, time to wind the yarn for this year's installment of the Sock Club's self-patterning sock yarn. With some input from Guido, I've been cooking up a better way to wind the yarn. If you remember last year, the system I set up involved about two hours of walking the length of the shop over and over again (with the help of the lovely and talented Katie) in order to make a 50' skein of yarn. Since I have over twice as much yarn to wind this year, I'm in need of a better system. I'm on my way to the hardware store in search of some PVC pipe to make something equivalent to a warping frame. I'll keep you posted on what I come up with!

Twice as much? That is great! How many sock club participants do you have this year?

Hmmmm... you might want to think of one that works on a lazy susan principle, so that it turns and you can do as little as possible.

I'd suggest a dog-powered one, except I can already see the dirty looks Miss Wanda would give me...

The hardware store and PVC pipe? Oh, you're speaking my language. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Also, I'm not sure about the scale of your project, but I have an antique yarn winder that I could loan you. Let me know...
